Membership

Contrary to popular misconception, you do not need to be related to a Mason to join the fraternity, nor do you need to be invited. In fact, Freemasonry holds that a man must seek admission of his own will and accord.

The basic requirements for membership in Massachusetts are that you are a man 18 years of age or older, of good standing in your community, who believes in a Supreme Being.

The first step towards becoming a Freemason is to ask a friend or relative who is a Mason for more information. If you do not know any Masons personally, that's OK - just contact us (or locate another lodge near you) and a Brother will be happy to meet you at the lodge, answer questions, and give you an application if you are interested.

Once you have submitted a petition for membership, you will meet with a committee from the lodge so that the lodge has a chance to learn more about you and vice versa. At the next lodge meeting, your application will be balloted upon by all of the members present. If you are accepted, your first degree will be scheduled as soon as it can be arranged. The exact timing will depend on the time of year and what other degrees may already be scheduled.

If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
